Job Description:
This position is to provide strategic leadership, coordinating, overseeing and managing of a complex research program.
Minimum Requirements:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 36 months of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills and Experiences:
· Extensive experience with IRB and Regulatory submission and overview
· Experience with research and personnel management
· Strong social and communication skills
· Excellent organizational skills
· Solid understanding of the preparation of budgets, contracts, and grant submission and
· management
Key Functions and Expected Performances:
Manages the day to day operations of a complex research team consisting of research nurses, coordinators and analysts:
· This includes creating daily/weekly/monthly staff schedules, approving time off, and training/mentoring of research staff
· Provides guidance on appropriate documentation of program needs to ensure VUMC compliance
· Provides constructive feedback to staff members of the research team. Will assist PI with conducting annual performance evaluations.
· Assigns and reviews the work of direct reports and other staff supporting the program
· Assists PI and HR Administrator of division with information and input about the need of future positions
· Acting as liaison between other departments within VUMC and sites outside such as the VA and St Thomas.
Manages the ongoing research operations of the program itself:
· This includes creating and implementing policies and procedures affecting the program
· Develop and implement improvements to the program/service
· Researches trends and implements strategies to promote continued success, growth, and improvements within the research program
· Will oversee the collection, compilation, and analysis of program activity against goals, objectives and timelines.
· Assures program contract, regulatory, and IRB compliance and submissions are in compliance as well as provide IRB researches and education to research staff and compliance with the institution, state and federal laws
Provides Grant Administration:
· This includes submissions of grants through the COEUS program (budgeting, formatting, writing, resources, etc)
· Will track and monitor expenditures against grant budget
· Manage and submission of progress reports, interaction with sponsors and invoicing
· Researches to find potential funding opportunities.
Designs, implements and manages the financial development of the research program:
· Prepares monthly status reports on all accounts
· Oversees financial well-being of the program by analyzing cost effectiveness and exercising cost controls.
· Monitors daily purchasing needs for the team and research program to ensure appropriate budget expenditures.
